Description

Aylton Court is an early 19th-century farmhouse with later 19th-century alterations. It is constructed of brick with stone dressings, and has a plain tiled roof, hipped at the front and forming three gables to the rear, with ridge stacks located about halfway back from the front on each outer gable. The house is three stories high, with cellars beneath. The main, north-eastern front has three bays by two, featuring a moulded stone eaves cornice. It has glazing bar sashes to the first and top floors, each with rubbed brick lintols and stone dropped keystones, the two central cills supported on small brackets. Late 19th-century canted bay windows with glazing bar sashes are set within stone surrounds on either side of the entrance. The central early to mid-19th-century door has four long panels separated by deep mouldings, and is sheltered by a late 19th-century timber porch. A single-story 18th-century wing, now a dairy, is attached to the right, featuring a dentilled brick eaves cornice and three segmentally-headed windows. The window to the left has iron bars, the window to the right is a two-light casement, and the centre window is a twelve-light casement. This wing is reportedly part of an earlier farmhouse on the site.
