Description
The Knapp is a house dating from the early 17th century, with some extensions from the mid-19th century and repairs from the mid-20th century. It is timber-framed with rendered infill sitting on a coursed rubble base and features a tiled roof. The building has a T-plan layout, with a cross-wing that runs north to south and a rear wing to the east.
The west front has two storeys above a basement. It features two windows on the upper floor, both of which are 3-light casements. On the ground floor, there is a 2-light casement to the left and a 3-light casement to the right, both with plank weatherings. The basement has an entrance to the left of centre, which includes a plain wooden architrave and a 17th-century ledged and boarded door. The main entrance is located on the south front.
The framing consists of three rectangular panels high on the ground floor and two square panels high on the first floor, with herringbone bracing creating a lozenge pattern. The north gable truss features diagonal struts that also form a lozenge pattern.
