Description

This is a house, likely dating from the 15th century, with extensions from the 17th century and alterations in the mid-19th century, restored in the late 20th century. It is timber-framed with painted brick and rendered infill between timber members, resting on a painted rubble plinth, and has a slate roof. The plan is L-shaped, with sections extending to the north and west. There is an external chimney stack on the east (front) wall, constructed of square ashlar, and another in the centre of the rear wing. The east front has two storeys, with a three-light casement window to the right, and a four-light casement window in a ground floor rubble wall to the right. The main entrance is on the left-hand (south) return. The timber framing is four panels high, with straight angle braces. Inside, the roof of the rear wing shows traces of smoke-blackening, suggesting a former open hall. The ground floor ceiling is a 17th-century insertion, characterized by deep chamfers.
