Description

The Tanner memorial is a chest tomb located about 10 metres east of the chancel of the Church of St Mary. It dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century and is made of ashlar stone. The tomb features rectangular inscription panels that are framed by returns on the ends, which are incised to resemble small ashlar blocks. It has a moulded cornice and a flat top. The inscriptions are almost completely illegible on the north side and on top, but the surname Tanner can still be distinguished. This memorial is a notable example of stone masonry and enhances the setting of the church, contributing to the group value of other memorials in the churchyard.
