Description

The Tanner monument, located in the churchyard by the south aisle of the Church of St James, is a chest tomb dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of ashlar stone and features a moulded base and cornice. The pulvinated frieze is broken forward over central plaques on each side, with baluster angles. The south side displays a rococo framed plaque at the center, flanked by two high relief carved flower heads on each side. The north side has a fielded central plaque with fielded strips on either side. The inscription on the north side commemorates Charles Tanner, who died in 1775.
