Description
Bevis is a house dating from the 16th century that has been altered. It features a timber-frame structure with painted brick and a stone slate roof, along with end stacks. The building is two storeys high. The left side of the front has close-studded timber framing in three tiers, with a rubble plinth and a rubble north end. There are triple casements and a pair of casements above, along with paired 8-pane sashes and a casement pair below. The centre and right side have been refaced in painted brick. The entrance door has a hood supported by brackets, with two triple casements above, a triangular bay window, a blocked door, and a casement pair below. The south end wall is roughcast. The rear features red brick on a rubble stone plinth to the left, with three pairs of casements on the first floor and one exposed wall-post. The right side has a roughcast rear wall with one gabled dormer. The north end wall has a roughcast lean-to addition with a curved bay from around 1900. In the 18th century, the building was part of two houses, with Whitehouse to the left and a bakery to the right. From around 1910 to 1923, it belonged to J.L. Osborne, who authored 'Some Villages of North Wilts'.
