Description

The Old Rectory is a former rectory dating back to the 16th or early 17th century, with significant additions and alterations made in the mid to later 18th century and again in the later 19th century. It is constructed of rubble stone with a stone slate roof. The original section of the building is at the east end, featuring a hipped roof to the south and a north-east angle, with one ridge stack and one rear stack. The south elevation has a hipped dormer and a single window with flush ashlar surrounds; the upper part is blank, and the lower part has a former sash window. The east side has been extended with a large three-window canted bay with similar windows, though the ground floor features a door and a blank window above the centre window. To the right is a single window with a ground floor window and a blank space above. All the windows originally had 18th-century sashes, now replaced with 20th-century aluminium glazing. The north side has a hipped dormer and a two-storey canted bay dating from the late 16th or early 17th century, featuring 1:3:1-light mullion windows with coved top mouldings. The north front has been extended by a single-window range to the west, with an end stack and paired sash windows in the 18th century. A large L-shaped addition from the later 19th century projects to the west, including large mullion-and-transom windows, a north side-wall stack, a coped west gable, a Gothic-style door on the south side, and a projecting half-hipped wing to the right.
