AYLTON CP - SO 63 NE 5/4 Cowhouse about 40 yards north-east of Aylton Court

GV II

Stables, now cowhouse. Rubble and brick plinth supporting timber-framing with brick infill, two panels high and slate roof. Four structural bays aligned roughly east/west. South elevation has three regularly spaced rectangular openings above the plinth and two symmetrical ledged stable doors one either side of central opening. Loft opening in south gable facing Aylton Court (qv). Interior: plank ridge supported on original trusses which are alternation of raking struts from ties to principals and queen struts from ties to collars supporting V-braces. (RCHM, Vol II, p 9).
