Description

The Powell memorial is a chest tomb located about 2 metres east of the chancel of the Church of St Mary. It commemorates John Powell, who died in 1794. The tomb is made of ashlar and features corner balusters, an inscription panel framed by a fluted border with paterae in the corners, a moulded cornice, and a flat top. The inscription reads: "To/ the memory of/ John Powell who Departed this life/ the Second Day of March 1794/ Aged (?4)9 Years". This memorial is a fine example of stone masonry and enhances the church's setting, contributing to the group value of the other memorials in the churchyard.
