Description

No. 2 The Southend is a building dating from around 1600. It is timber-framed and has a tiled roof, standing three storeys tall with an attic storey that has been heightened. The ground floor features remnants of a 19th-century shop front, which includes a moulded cornice and a modern window. Inside the shop front, there is a moulded bressummer that was once part of a projecting upper storey. The first floor has been extended with later timber framing, while the second floor displays close-set studding and a moulded bressummer, with heightened eaves. The building has one window wide, featuring three-light casements on the first floor, which are modern. No. 2 The Southend is part of a group that includes Nos. 1 to 4, the Royal Oak Hotel, and Nos. 6 to 11 on the same street.
