Description

The buildings at 6 and 8 New Street comprise an 18th-century front applied to an earlier timber-framed structure. They are built of painted brick with brick dentil eaves. The buildings are two storeys high and originally had six windows, one of which is now blocked. The windows are mostly 2- and 3-light casements, with one sash window having a cambered head. Number 6 has a modern shop front, while Number 8 has a Victorian shop front featuring 12 lights and a moulded cornice. A round-arched passageway is located to the left. The roof is tiled, with gable ends. Numbers 2 to 8 (even), together with Number 1, form a group, including the Southend property.
