Description
No 21 on High Street is a 17th-century building featuring stuccoed timber framing and a tiled roof with a parapet. It stands three storeys tall, with the top floor projecting at the east front, supported by a heavy moulded bressummer on shaped brackets. The front has four widely-spaced sash windows with glazing bars. There is a late Victorian shop front that extends almost the entire width of the building and wraps around the corner. On the right side of the front, there is an arched opening with the date 1803 above it.
An extension beyond the main structure is two storeys high, with stucco above and colourwashed brick below, featuring two widely-spaced sash windows. The right side of the first floor projects slightly, with a moulded bressummer that is interrupted by a five-light sash window with panelled shutters. Inside, there is a moulded beam in the passage leading to the back yard. A door post with an attached Ionic column was preserved in a shed at the back in 1932.
No 21 is part of a group that includes Nos 21 to 23, The Feathers Hotel, Nos 26 and 27, and St Katherine's Chapel and Hall.
