Description
Nos 13 and 15 on New Street are a building with an 18th-century front that conceals a 17th-century timber-framed structure. The front is made of painted brick and features brick pilasters at each end, along with dentil blocks beneath the eaves. The building has a gable-ended roof covered with tiles and stands three storeys tall. It includes five windows, with the left-hand end slightly splayed back. The windows are three-light wood mullion and transom casements that have cambered heads. There is a wide carriage entrance on the left side, and two large mid-19th-century shop fronts that feature fluted pilasters, a fascia, and a wide cornice. The west return and east gable reveal exposed timber-framing. This building is part of a group that includes Nos 7 to 15 (odd), Lanark House, The Steppes, No 19, and the stables west of No 19.
