Description
Ledbury Park is a large house dating primarily to the late 16th century, with significant additions and alterations made in the 17th and 19th centuries. The original core is timber-framed and has a tiled roof. A top storey and a north range were added in the first half of the 17th century. The west front has five gables, featuring carved bargeboards, pendants and finials, along with corbels at the valleys. The top and first floors project with moulded bressummers; the first-floor bressummer has a modern fascia board. The windows have a variety of styles: first-floor windows are three-light sashes with glazing bars; ground-floor windows are mullion and transom windows with leaded panes; and second-floor windows are two-light casements. The north range, facing Worcester Road, has a similar gable. A further range was built in 1820, featuring a roughcast brick ground floor and a timber-framed upper section with wide panels and pedimented windows. At the east end of this Worcester Road elevation are two overhanging timber-framed gables with oriels, and an octagonal turret topped with a lead-clad ogee-shaped dome. The house underwent considerable rebuilding in 1820.
Inside the west range, a room on the south side contains a fireplace incorporating 17th-century materials, with enriched plasterwork and an overmantel of two arcaded bays. A room on the north side retains original panelling with the carved date 1590 above the doorway, and sliding shutters to the windows. Other rooms have moulded ceiling beams. The 19th-century east range incorporates early 17th-century panelling.
