Description
This is a barn and cow house located about 40 yards south-south-east of Wootton. The barn dates from the 18th century, while the cow house extension was built in the mid- to late 19th century. The barn is constructed with weatherboarded timber framing on a rubble plinth, and the cow house is made of brick and rubble, both featuring plain tiled roofs.
The barn has five bays and is aligned north to south, with an additional bay extending to the north, followed by a seven-bay cow house range. On the west elevation, the barn has full-height opposed ledged doors in the third bay from the right, an early 19th-century lean-to shelter to the left of the doors, and a pitched roof cow cot to the right. The cow house has three entries on the left, two in the center, and two on the right.
The barn's frame consists of two panels high from the high plinth to the wall plate, with triangular struts supporting the trusses. In the cow house, there are V-struts from the ties to the principals in the southern part and collar trusses in the northern part.
