Tower About 15 Metres South Of Church Of St Leonard

The structure is a detached tower located about 15 meters south of the Church of St Leonard. It likely dates from the 13th century and was restored in 1910. The tower is built of random rubble with some ashlar dressings and features a roof made of stone tiles and shingles. It has a square plan with walls on the ground floor that enclose the frame of the tower. Lean-to roofs are present on the stone walls, while the upper part of the tower is weatherboarded and features a range of seven pierced quatrefoils just below the pyramidal roof.

The entrance, located in the north wall, has a chamfered segmental pointed arch, and the boarded door is fitted with plain strap hinges. Simple slit windows are found in the other walls. Inside, the entire tower is supported by four massive corner posts that incline inwards and taper towards the top. The spaces between the posts are scissor-braced. There are empty mortices in the main posts, indicating that the outer wall may have originally been timber-framed. The restorers in the early 20th century bolted new braces onto the inside of the frame.
