Description

Lower House is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with extensions built in the mid-18th century and alterations in the mid-19th century. It is timber-framed with painted brick infill, and parts have been rebuilt in painted brick, with a further extension in painted rubble. The building has an L-shaped plan, with a cross-wing projecting south and a further range to the east. An 18th-century wing was added, extending north from the northwest corner of the cross-wing. The north front's 18th-century range has a blind gable end. To the left of this gable is the cross-wing, followed by a subsidiary range. The entire building is two storeys high, with a three-light casement window to the left and a fixed casement to the right. The ground floor has a three-light casement with a plank weathering and a two-light casement. The central entrance is protected by a gabled canopy supported on wooden posts. The timber framing on the first floor consists of two square panels. Inside, the interior features exposed chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. The 18th-century wing contains a cider mill and press.
