Description
This building is a barn located about 10 yards south of Caldicott Farmhouse. It is possibly from the 15th century, with extensions made in the late 17th or early 18th century, and alterations in the 19th century. The barn features a timber-frame construction, sandstone rubble, and weatherboards, topped with Welsh slate and corrugated iron roofs. It has a T-plan layout, consisting of a three-bay main range from the 15th century that runs north-east to south-west, and a three-bay cross-wing at the north end.
The north-west elevation showcases the gable front of the 17th or 18th-century cross-wing, which is weatherboarded and has a corrugated iron gable top, along with tallet stairs leading to a ledged loft door. The main range includes full-height opposed cart entries in the middle bay and two loops on each side, while the cross-wing has a half-hipped roof at the rear. Inside, the main range contains three pairs of crucks, and the cross-wing features triple angle strut trusses. Caldicott Farmhouse is located in St Weonards civil parish.
