Description

Penrose Farmhouse is a building of probable 16th-century origin, with later additions. It is constructed of sandstone rubble, with timber-framing, plaster infill, brick, and Welsh slate roofs. The farmhouse has two side stacks and detached brick shafts. It is arranged in an L-shape, with an original wing aligned north-west to south-east, and a later wing attached to the south end, extending south-west. The north-east elevation features a gable front, containing three casement windows with two lights each—one in the gable top and two to the ground floor—flanked by stacks. To the right of the windows is exposed, closely studded timber-framing. The interior of the north-east to south-west range contains a segmental door head, and triple angle strut trusses.
