Description
Willox Bridge Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the 17th century, with remodels in the 18th century and further alterations and extensions in the 20th century. It features a timber-framed structure with parts made of wattle-and-daub and painted brick infill, all sitting on a sandstone rubble plinth. The building has been later refaced with plastered sandstone rubble and has a 20th-century tiled roof. Originally an L-shaped house, it has been largely transformed into a rectangular shape with a 20th-century addition at the angle and an entrance on the west front, along with another adjoining 20th-century addition to the south (which is not included in the listing).
The farmhouse has two storeys and attics, with the main axial stack. The west front showcases two gables featuring 3-light casement windows and a central 6-pane casement window. There is an entrance in a single-storey extension to the right, which has a ledged door. The north and east sides reveal square panelled timber-framing, consisting of four square panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with V-struts in the gable.
Although the interior has been altered, it remains fairly intact, showcasing wavy splat balusters on the staircase and chamfered ceiling beams in the main room. The main fireplace, which is now blocked by a 20th-century addition, retains its chamfered jambs and lintels, as does a fireplace in an upper room. Additionally, the upper rooms feature sections of 18th-century panelling.
