Description
Didley Court Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the 16th and 17th centuries, with alterations made in the late 19th and 20th centuries. It features square panelled timber-framing with painted brick infill and a sandstone rubble plinth. The roof is covered with Welsh slate, and the west gable end of the cross-wing is also clad in Welsh slate. The building consists of a hall aligned north/south and a cross-wing at the north end, with a 17th-century stair turret at the angle of the cross-wing on the west side. The entrance is located to the south of the west front. There is a main axial stack, and the farmhouse is single storey with an attic. The slate-hung gable end of the cross-wing on the left has a 3-light casement window, while the ground stair turret to the right of the wing features a 2-light casement window. The hall block to the right has a 3-light glazing bar casement window to the left or a gabled porch with a ledged door. Inside, there is an octagonal newel for the stair and sections of 1600 panelling in the ground floor room of the cross-wing. The upper rooms were not inspected, but the 16th-century trusses of the hall block, noted by the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England, are said to be unaltered.
