Description

No. 18 Broad Street is a house that has been converted into a shop and dwelling, dated 1600. It features a timber-frame and plaster construction with a steep-pitched Welsh slate roof that has twin gables facing the street and two stacks at the rear. The building stands three storeys tall with an attic and has a two-window range. The late 19th-century windows are three-light casements set in simple architraves. There is a jetty supported by scrolled brackets, and the gables have a moulded bressumer also on scrolled brackets. Above a shallow jetty, there are two additional three-light mullion casements with leaded lights. The framing is symmetrical with small panels and includes spurred braces.

The entrance is located to the left and features a late 19th-century plank door with a plain overlight, all under a modillioned wood hood supported by scrolled consoles and pilasters. The late 19th-century shop front has central half-glazed double doors with a plain overlight, flanked by canted windows with moulded glazing bars, and includes a moulded fascia-board and hood on plain pilasters. At the rear, there is a spurred brick axial stack and pantiles, along with two 18th-century gable wings on the left, which have steep-pitched roofs, storey bands, and 3/6 sash windows set under segmental arches. The interior has not been inspected.
