Description

The Grantham Canal milepost, located approximately 10 metres west of Owthorpe Lane, dates from the late 18th century. This canal milepost is made of cast iron and features a rounded top with a moulded edge. The raised letters on the post read: "10¼ MILES FROM THE TRENT," with the number 10¼ painted on. The Grantham Canal was authorized in 1793, and this section was constructed by James Green, the surveyor employed by Lord Middleton of Wollaton Hall.
