Description
The Chestnuts is a house located on Orston Hill Road, dating from the late 17th century, with additions from the mid and late 19th century. The building features coursed rubble and brick construction with pantile roofs, some of which are steeply pitched. It has a plinth, a cogged band at the first floor, and rebated and dentillated eaves. The structure is L-shaped, with two and three storeys and three bays.
The street-facing side has a projecting gabled wing on the right, while the left side features a Yorkshire sash window. On the right, there is a late 19th-century canted bow window with casements. Above this, there are two glazing bar sashes, with the right one being larger. On the southwest side, there are two 20th-century casements to the right, with a central casement above, and two more casements above that.
The northeast side includes a single-storey outbuilding from the late 19th century, which has a door flanked by single casements. To the right of this outbuilding is a lean-to rear addition with a door and a tiled hood supported by timber brackets, along with a casement featuring a segmental head. The gables to the right have early and mid-20th-century windows, while above to the left is a 20th-century casement and to the right a 19th-century sash. The return angle features a 20th-century gabled porch and a Yorkshire sash above it, with other windows from the 20th century.
