Description
The Woodlands is a farmhouse dating from the early 18th century, with some 20th-century alterations. It is constructed of brick and features gabled and lean-to roofs covered with pantiles. The eaves are cogged and dentillated, and there is a single coped gable with two gable stacks. The building has two storeys plus garrets and is arranged in an L-shape with three bays.
The front elevation has a central half-glazed door with a segmental head, flanked by single casement windows. Above the door, there are three casements, with the central one being smaller. On the southwest end, there is a lean-to bake oven to the left and two casements to the right, with a 20th-century casement window above for the garret. The northeast gable features a 20th-century door to the right and a casement window above for the garret.
The rear elevation includes a lean-to addition to the left and a similar late 20th-century addition at the return angle. There is an off-centre door flanked by two casements on the left and a single casement on the right, with two casements above. The rear wing has a chamfered span beam with ogee stops and a fireplace bressumer, while other chamfered span beams lack stops. Inside, there is a three-storey winder stair with square newels, a reeded softwood fireplace with paterae, a late 18th-century hob grate, and a mid-19th-century register grate set in a bracketed limestone surround. The adjoining single-storey outbuildings are not of special interest and the farmhouse is included for its group value only.
