Description
Manor house and service wing, dating from the early 18th century with alterations and additions in the early 19th century. The building was restored in 1989. It is constructed of red brick with stone blue brick diaperwork, featuring graduated slate roofs with ashlar coped gables and kneelers. There are two valley stacks and a lateral stack. The building follows a double range plan, with two storeys plus garrets and a four-bay facade extending to a further four bays. The main house has glazing bar sash windows, while the service wing primarily has Yorkshire sashes.
The west front includes a service wing with a two-storey, single-bay addition to the left, featuring a door and two windows above. A linking wall creates a mask. A C20 glazed doorway is present. The main house’s west front features an off-centre C20 wooden doorcase with a six-panel door and overlight. To the left of the doorcase is a sash window and to the right, two sash windows; above are four sashes. The south, double gable front has two sashes on the ground floor and two Yorkshire sashes in the garrets. The garden front has a recessed central doorway with a part-glazed door, a small sash to the right, and a large sash to the left. Above, there is a central large sash flanked by single smaller sashes.
The interior includes a fine early 18th century single-flight return staircase with two turned balusters per tread and ramped dado panelling to the sides, along with a stone flagged floor. There are two ground floor rooms featuring complete early 18th century fielded panelling, including window shutters, doors, and fireplaces. A similar panelled room exists on the floor above. The kitchen and an upper bedroom have stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. Most rooms retain their original doors with locks, and most bedrooms feature fine late 18th century grates.
