Description

The Old Post Office is a cottage built in 1731, with early 19th century and 20th century alterations. It is constructed of red brick, with some blue brick elements. The front features a Swithland slate roof from around 1970, while the rear has a plain-tile roof. There are two red brick gable stacks, with the left stack being external. The building has dentil eaves and a first-floor band made of red brick stretchers and blue brick headers. It is a single storey plus attic and consists of three bays.

The central entrance has an open trellis porch with an inner panelled door. On either side of the porch are single casement windows, each featuring two pointed arched lights beneath segmental brick arches. The attic includes two 19th century half dormers, which are gabled with bargeboards and have single similar casements. Above the porch, there is a plaque inscribed "J.E. 1731".

At the rear, there is an 18th century wing that was likely raised in the early 19th century, along with a two-storey extension dating from around 1950. Inside, the cottage features chamfered beams, plank doors, early and mid-19th century fireplaces and grates, early 19th century stairs, and a wooden frame in the floor where the original ladder stairs once rose.
