Description

No. 42 on Easthorpe Street is a house dating from the mid-17th century, with later alterations from the 19th century. The building is originally timber framed and features red brick, topped with a pantile roof. It has two storeys and six bays, with the right two bays having been later fronted. From left to right, the façade includes a small casement window, a blocked segmental arched opening, a doorway with a plank door and overlight, a modern casement window, a doorway with a partially glazed modern door, and a segmental arched casement window. Above these, there is a tripartite casement window with two glazing bar casements to the right, all set at different levels. The left gable displays an insurance plaque. Inside, there is a bressumer fireplace, some chamfered beams, and a few plank doors with strap hinges. The first floor shows evidence of wall plates and a tie beam, along with a single stud partition that incorporates a curved brace. The staircase features 18th-century treads.
