Description

Numbers 23 and 25 are a pair of houses built around 1840 in Newark on Trent. They are constructed of brick with stone dressings and have a slate roof. The houses feature a rendered plinth, horizontal bands at the first and second floor levels, dentillated eaves, and two gable stacks along with a single side wall stack. The window lintels are splayed and feature keystones. There are three full-height, elliptical-arched recesses, supported by brick pilasters. The houses are three storeys high, with a three-window front. The upper floors contain smaller sash windows, with the central ones being dummy windows. The ground floor has a pair of fluted doorcases, featuring scroll brackets supporting a shared hood. The doors are moulded six-panel affairs, with the right-hand door being half-glazed. A single sash window is located to the right of the doors. Attached to the front is a cast iron railing with spearheads, set on a 20th-century brick plinth and supported by piers.
