Description

Smith's House is a house that was formerly a house and shop, dating from the early 17th century. It features a timber frame with late 18th century red brick cladding, some dressed coursed rubble, and render, along with a rubble plinth and a pantile roof. The house has two gable and one ridge red brick stacks, with the right stack being external. The visible wall plate indicates its construction style.

The building is two storeys high and consists of five bays, with the right two bays slightly projecting. From left to right, there is one doorway with a wooden door, a single glazing bar Yorkshire sash window, another single Yorkshire sash, a doorway with a part-glazed door and a gabled wood and felt trellis porch, and a final single Yorkshire sash. Above these, there is a small casement window and, on the far right, another glazing bar Yorkshire sash.

The left or road-facing front has a ground floor made of dressed coursed rubble, featuring a single 20th-century shop window. Above this is a single Yorkshire sash window, with a metal Cadbury's Cocoa sign to the right. Attached to the right of the main house is a single-storey, four-bay outbuilding made of red brick and pantile, which has been partially converted for domestic use. This outbuilding includes a single casement window and, to the right, a single Yorkshire sash window, along with two segmental arched doorways with plank doors further right. The interior of the house retains many beams and shows evidence of some posts.
