Description
Lilley and Stone School is a building constructed in 1898, with some alterations made in the late 20th century. It was designed by C. Mallows as the School of Science and Art. The school is built from brick with stone dressings and features a slate roof with five coped ridge stacks, showcasing a domestic revival style.
The building is two storeys high and consists of three bays. The double gabled front has a recessed center that includes a three-light glazing bar casement. Each gable is adorned with a large round-headed glazing bar window that has wooden mullions and transoms, although the central lights have been altered. The entrance features a moulded round arched hooded doorway with a scrolled wrought iron overthrow, now fitted with 20th-century glazing and stone mullioned overlights. Flanking the doorway are polygonal bay windows topped with a dentillated cornice and copper tent roof, and these also contain glazing bar windows with wooden mullions and transoms.
