Description
Beaumond Cross is a market cross located in Newark on Trent. It dates back to the 14th century and was restored in 1778 and 1801. The cross was resited in the late 20th century. It is constructed of ashlar and features a 20th-century octagonal plinth with four steps leading up to an octagonal pedestal. The pedestal supports a tapered clustered shaft topped with a tiered finial and a renewed cap. At the base of the shaft, there is a gabled niche containing a figure. A brass plate on the pedestal is inscribed with "Repaired and ornamented 1778 at expense of Charles Mellish, Recorder." Beaumond Cross is also designated as a scheduled ancient monument, number 10.
