Description

The Bowling Club House, dated 1809 in Roman numerals on a datestone in the pediment, is located on London Road in Newark on Trent. This building is constructed of brick with stone dressings and features slate and pantile roofs, showcasing a Gothick style.

The front elevation includes a plinth and a ground floor sill band, with coped gables, the front ones being crenellated, and three octagonal gable stacks. It stands two storeys high and has a four-window range, with the central two bays projecting. The windows consist of two margin light sashes, with a larger similar sash to the right and a door to the left. All these openings have pointed heads and keystones. A large balcony supported by reeded iron posts is located in front of these features, adorned with a Gothick cast iron railing. The balcony's front is inscribed with the club motto "Let no man be biased."

Below the balcony, there are two 2-light casements flanked by single doors, one of which has lozenge panelling. All these openings feature Gothick overlights and keystones. The rear elevation rises three storeys and has a projecting centre, displaying a four-window range of blank Gothick windows, with two similar blanks above and four similar blanks below, three of which have been altered into 2-light casements.
