Description
The Horse and Gears public house is an early 19th-century building located on Portland Street in Newark on Trent. It is constructed of brick with stone dressings and features a concrete pantile roof. The building has a second floor band and a wooden gutter supported by shaped brackets, along with two brick coped gable stacks.
It stands three storeys tall and has a four-window range, with 20th-century imitation sash windows, although the window to the right is blank. Above these, there are smaller similar windows, with the second and fourth from the left also being blank. On the ground floor, there are two imitation sash windows; to the left, there is a beaded four-panel door with an overlight, and to the right, there is a round-headed entry with a close boarded door and an ornate fanlight.
