Description

The monument to Elizabeth Sophia Cavendish Bentinck is located in the churchyard of the Church of St. Winifred, 4 metres east of the apse. This early 20th-century monument takes the form of a low table tomb made of ashlar. It is rectangular in shape and features four bulbous feet, decorated with eight carved shields. The monument stands on a rectangular paved area. The top is adorned with a decorative stylised cross carved in relief, and it bears the inscription: "To the memory of Elizabeth Sophia, wife of Lieutenant General Arthur Cavendish Bentinck and eldest daughter of Sir St. Vincent and the Hon. Lady Hawkins Whitshed. Died Jan 4th 1858 aged 22."
