Description

Scrooby Top Farmhouse Restaurant is a building that dates back to the early 18th century and was formerly a staging-post on the Great North Road. It is constructed of rendered red brick with an ashlar plinth and features a hipped concrete pantile roof with two rendered brick gable stacks. The building stands at two and a half storeys and has five bays, flanked by slightly recessed two-storey, two-bay rendered wings. The left wing has a concrete pantile roof, while the right wing is covered with slates. Both wings have ashlar coped gables and single brick gable stacks.

There are ground floor sill and first floor bands that extend to the flanking wings. The central doorway features a panelled door with a traceried fanlight, a keystone, and a surround of attached Doric columns and an entablature. On either side of the doorway are two glazing bar sashes with keystones, above which are five similar sashes with keystones on the first floor and five smaller sashes on the top floor. The left wing has two glazing bar sashes with keystones, with two similar sashes above. The right wing has a single glazing bar sash with a keystone, alongside a blocked window with a keystone and two blocked openings above, one of which now contains a wooden slatted opening.
