Description
Scrooby Top Cottages and attached buildings are a row of three cottages and stables built in the mid-18th century. They are constructed from red brick and feature pantile roofs with dentillated eaves. The main cottage is two storeys high and has three bays, a pyramidal roof, and a central chimney stack. To the left, there is a lower two-storey, five-bay wing with a single ridge stack, and to the right, a single-storey, seven-bay stable block with a hipped roof and a stack at the rear.
The three-bay cottage includes a central blocked archway with ashlar impost blocks, flanked by single brick pilasters that extend to the first floor. It has single glazing bar Yorkshire sash windows under segmental arches, which have replaced previous openings, and additional similar pilasters. Above this, there is a rough entablature band at the first floor level, with a central round panel featuring a glazing bar Yorkshire sash on the left and a 20th-century glazing bar casement on the right, both under segmental arches.
The left five-bay wing has a blocked arch with ashlar impost blocks. It features a sash window with glazing bars in the upper portion to the right, a similar sash to the left, a single brick pilaster rising to the first floor, another similar sash, and an arch over an alleyway. All ground floor sashes are placed under segmental arches, with three similar sashes above.
The single-storey stable block has altered openings, including from left to right: a doorway with a 20th-century door, a small opening with a wooden shutter under a segmental arch, an arched doorway with ashlar impost blocks and a wooden door, a large doorway with double wooden doors, a single brick pilaster rising to the eaves, a larger doorway with double wooden doors, a single window now blocked with wood, and a glazing bar casement under a segmental arch, which is currently lacking glazing.
