Description
Caistor Methodist Chapel is a chapel built around 1840, constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings and a slate roof featuring two wall stacks. The building has a basement and a two-storey, three-bay front. It stands on a deep plinth supported by four pilasters that divide the facade into three irregular bays, with the central bay being wider than the two flanking ones. The pilasters extend to roll-moulded capitals, topped by a frieze and a full stone-lined pediment, which includes a pierced stone roundel at its center.
The basement features a central plain door with a five-pane overlight, flanked by single glazing bar sashes that have slightly segmental stone lintels. On the first floor, there is a central triple window with moulded capitals and arches, consisting of five panes with stained glass borders, alongside single double windows in a similar but simpler style. The second floor mirrors the first. Between the first and second floors, there is a stone tablet inscribed 'Wesleyan Chapel'.
The right side of the chapel has four bays with pilasters, each panel featuring a dentillated cornice and a first-floor band, containing single sashes at both ground and first floor levels with moulded brick heads. There is a gabled porch on the left side, dated 1900.
Inside, the chapel boasts a complete first-floor gallery shaped like a flattened oval, with a panelled wood front supported by iron stanchions designed as baseless round Tuscan columns. The original pews remain, although the reader's desk is a later addition. Two staircases outside the main hall have plain square-section balusters, curling handrails, and open treads. The upper level is grained and painted to resemble good deal, featuring a complete set of box pews. The ceiling is adorned with a decorative plaster rose at its center, surrounded by acanthus leaves, and a pierced decorative iron ventilator grille encircles the margins of the ceiling.
