TF 08 NW SAXBY MAIN STREET (North side)

6/38 Manor House 30.11.66 II

House. Mid C17, c.1700, 1786 refronting with C19 and C20 alterations. Coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and quoins; pantile roof with raised stone coped gables and kneelers and 2 brick ridge stacks. L-plan, lobby entry; the main front has 2 storeys with garret in left hand gable and 4 bays with an off centre glazed door with C20 pent porch. To left is a single glazing bar sash and beyond a canted glazing bar bay window with hipped stone slate roof. To right is a single 3 light casement. The 1st floor has 2 glazing bar sashes and a single 3 light casement. A single glazing bar sash is in the gable over. All windows are C20 replacements and have segmental stone heads. In the gable is an oval datestone inscribed "AD 1786". Further right is a single storey service wing of 2 bays with raised stone coped gables and kneelers. Interior: during alterations the remains of 2 C17 4 centred stone fireplace surrounds were uncovered and sites of some blocked mullioned windows discovered. The main roof is of staggered butt purlin type c.1700.
