Description

This is a house, originally built as a rectory in 1842. It is constructed of yellow brick with ashlar stone dressings, topped with a hipped slate roof featuring lead details and four brick stacks. The two-storey front of the house has a brick plinth, an ashlar sill band, a string course, and a cornice to the parapet. The three-bay front is slightly emphasized and contains a two-leaf panelled front door, flanked by single vertical windows. A substantial open porch, accessed by three steps, supports the doorway and is constructed with four Corinthian columns set within a recessed surround, a full entablature with moulded brackets, and a cornice adorned with lion-head antefixa. To either side of the front door are single sash windows with moulded architraves and cornices. The first floor features three similar sash windows with moulded architraves. To the right of the main block is a lower, two-storey service block, four bays wide, with the end bay slightly projected. The garden front has a central ground-floor window with a cornice supported by console brackets, and flanking three-light windows with segmental heads. A side front features a three-light bay window with stone pilasters. The house was given as a gift by the then-incumbent, the Reverend Hutton.
