Description
The building known as the Barn to Church Farmhouse is a former gatehouse that has been converted into a barn. It features medieval masonry and is primarily from the 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The structure is constructed of ashlar and squared coursed limestone rubble, topped with a pantile roof.
It stands two stories high with an irregular three-bay front. The entrance is an off-centre planked door from the 19th century, situated below two fixed lights—one from the 20th century and the other set in a chamfered stone surround. There are also three breathers present. To the right of the entrance, there is a projecting coped buttress alongside an area of earlier masonry. The right-hand angle of the building is chamfered, and the lower part of the gable is made of substantial ashlar stone.
Notably, on the right side of the gable, there are five stones forming an octagonally moulded respond, which likely indicates that this was once an entrance to Corby Castle, located just to the north. The building is designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument No. 318.
