Description
The Old Smithy is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared limestone rubble, featuring ashlar dressings, and has a pantile roof with raised stone coped gables. The building has a single red brick gable stack and the base of a 17th-century axial stack topped with brick. Originally, it had a lobby entry and consists of two storeys with a front that was originally three bays. The central doorway is now blocked and is flanked by two 2-light glazing bar casements, which have deep ashlar lintels. On the first floor, there are two similar windows located at the eaves. Inside, the house retains large beams and an inglenook fireplace with a bressumer, as well as a stone-lined small cupboard that features a graffito of a figure.
