Description
West Lodge is a house that was originally a gate lodge, built around 1830 with 20th-century additions. It is constructed from coursed squared limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and features a pointed slate roof with lead dressings. The building is octagonal in shape, with a small service range at the rear. It is a single storey with a garret.
The design includes a plinth, a stone band above the window heads, and a parapet with a narrow moulded cornice. The entrance on the south side has a door made of two half-glazed leaves hinged at the center, which is sheltered by an open porch supported by paired Tuscan columns. The porch has a flat roof and a moulded cornice, and above it is a recessed plain rectangular panel. On either side of the entrance are single glazing bar sash windows with plain stone lintels. Above the stone band, there are plain recessed roundels. The other sides of the building are mostly blank, except for the northwest side, where the roundel above the band features a leaded light opening to the garret. Inside, the lodge retains shutters and an original fireplace.
