Description

The churchyard wall in Syston dates from the early 19th century and is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings. It runs from north to south across the churchyard and features a central opening that provides a view of the church from the park to the east. The wall is topped with a diminishing coursed stone coping that has a saddleback profile, sloping downwards on either side of the opening. This central opening is flanked by large square pillars that have plain cornices and are topped with large stone balls. The wall is included in the listing for its group value.
