Description
The Rising Sun Public House, located at 17 Broad Street, is a late 16th or early 17th century building. It features two storeys and attics, constructed of painted stone, topped with a stone slate roof that includes three gabled dormers. On the first floor, there is one double-hung sash window with glazing bars. The ground floor has two double-hung sash windows with glazing bars, which are placed irregularly. To the right, there is a window set lower in an altered (bricked) reveal. The building has thin wood lintels and a six-panel door with a glazed rectangular fanlight. A wrought iron sign bracket is also present. The Rising Sun Public House is part of a group that includes the Roman Catholic Church of St Augustine, the school, the wall, and gate piers to the church, along with Nos 14, 15, and Nos 17 to 22.
