Description
37 and 38 St Martin's are two houses that have been converted into one building. They date from the mid-18th century but have an earlier core. The first section is built of rubble and has two storeys with a stone slate roof. It features two dormers and two windows with double-hung sashes in plain stone surrounds. The second section is similar but constructed in ashlar and does not have dormers. The third section has two dormers and is made of ashlar with rusticated quoins. It includes five windows with moulded architraves, triple keystones, and stone bands at the cills, along with a good moulded stone cornice and a parapet with five panels. The fourth section is slightly taller and also made of ashlar, dating from the late 18th century. It has Doric pilasters at the quoins and as jambs to two windows, which also feature triple keystones, a cornice, and a small parapet. To the right, there is a half-timbered porch added in 1884, which has rough-rendered infill and an iron finial. Nos 18 to 38 and the Church of St Martin form a group.
