Description
1 and 2 Burghley Lane are two houses dating from the early 17th century. They are two storeys tall with attics, built from coursed rubble and featuring stone dressings. The stone slate roof has four hipped dormers and a wooden eaves cornice. There are five windows in total; No 1 has the central three windows adorned with triple keystones, while the band continues above the window heads. The windows are double-hung sashes with glazing bars set in plain reveals. On the ground floor, the right-hand window lacks a keystone, and the window to the left of the door for No 1 is not a sash but has one opening casement light and has lost its keystone. No 1 features a rectangular-headed six-panel door beneath a rectangular fanlight, which has thick glazing bars across its four panes, one of which is made of bottle glass. Inside, one downstairs room retains its early 18th-century panelling. This building is included as part of an unusual group with Nos 7-13 Burghley Lane.
