Description
Rose Cottage is a house built in 1830, with an addition made in 1863. The structure is made of coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and quoins, and it is painted. It features a slate roof with lead dressings and stone-coped gables, along with two chimneys. The house is two storeys high and has a slight plinth and a band at the first floor. It consists of three bays with end pilasters, and the slightly advanced centre bay has a pediment topped by a cross fleury. The central entrance is a four-panelled door with a traceried overlight, which is sheltered by a two-columned open Tuscan porch that has a flat roof and a moulded cornice. All the windows are four-pane sashes with flat lintels that have slightly emphasised keystones. An inscribed plaque in the pediment reads "IHT 1830." At the rear, there is an extension that dates to 1863. The interior retains its shutters and one original fireplace. Rose Cottage was built for the estate manager of Systan Park by the Thorolds.
