Description
Foresters Cottage is an estate cottage that has been converted into a house. It dates from the early 19th century and has undergone some additions and alterations in the late 20th century. The building is constructed from coursed squared stone and brick, featuring ashlar dressings, and has both gabled and hipped slate roofs. It has a plinth and a first-floor band. The cottage is two storeys high and has a two-window range. The windows have segmental heads and splayed lintels. The front has a single bay with an unglazed window, and below it is a moulded ashlar doorcase with a cornice and a fielded six-panel door. The right side of the cottage has two six-pane sash windows, and below are two larger twelve-pane sashes, which are now boarded up. At the rear, there is a late 20th-century brick addition that is a single storey plus attics, featuring a catslide roof. There is also a modified 19th-century single-storey rear outbuilding. This cottage was originally built for workers on the Belton estate by the Brownlow family of Belton House.
