Description
East Lodge is a house that was originally a gate lodge, built around 1830 with later 19th-century additions. It is constructed from coursed squared limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and features a low pointed slate roof with lead dressings and an off-center stone stack. The building is octagonal in shape, with a small service range at the rear and a later extension to the right. It is a single-storey structure with a garret.
The lodge has a plinth and a stone band above the window heads, topped with a parapet that has a narrow moulded cornice. On the south side, there are double doors, each with four panels, which are sheltered by a porch supported by paired engaged Tuscan columns and a plain moulded entablature. Above the porch is a plain recessed rectangular panel. Flanking the doors are single glazing bar sash windows with plain stone lintels, and above the stone band are plain recessed roundels. The remaining sides of the building are mostly blank, except for the northwest side, where the roundel above the band features an opening leaded light to the garret. Inside, the lodge retains its shutters and original fireplace.
